Oregon Independent Party nominates Haugen in OR-1

Congressional candidate Joel Haugen (R): Campaign photoCongressional candidate Joel Haugen (R): Campaign photoThe Oregon Independent Party announced Wednesday that it will be nominating Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose) for Congress in Oregon's 1st Congressional District.

The cross-nominations have led to several electoral questions as to how Haugen and other candidates must appear on the ballot. According to the Secretary of State, Haugen's name can only appear on the ballot once. If he does take up the Independent Party nomination, he will have to drop the Republican nomination, thus clearing the way for CD-1 Republicans to nominate a new congressional candidate

The field of candidates looking to secure the Democratic nomination for secretary of state has narrowed to two frontrunners, according to a poll commissioned by the Portland Tribune and FOX News 12.

Oregon nurses name Metsger 'Legislator of the Year'

State Senator Rick Metsger, candidate for Secretary of State, was among those honored with the ‘Legislator of the Year’ award from the Oregon Nurses Association at the annual conference in Bend.

“His legislative record of improving patient care and protecting nurses is second to none,” said Chris O’neill, Chair of the Oregon Nurse PAC.

Metsger, who has served in the Senate since 1998, has supported bills which have protected homecare nurses from workplace violence and helped increased nurse staffing levels in order to insure that patients have continual monitoring.
