Adams and the PDC

The Oregonian has a must-read story today on Portland Mayor-elect Sam Adams and the Portland Development Commission.  It seems outgoing Mayor Tom Potter will ask Adams’ input on the two PDC appointments, which come up next month, and that Potter wants to protect his friend, Marc Rosenbaum – whom the newspaper says may have a personality clash with the new Mayor.  CLICK HERE TO READ

When life imitates art: Dule Hill stumps for Obama

Dule HillDule HillCharlie Young, aide to "West Wing" President Josiah Bartlet (D-N.H.) is coming to town.

Well, more accurately, Dule Hill, the actor who portrayed him will be in Portland stumping for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's presidential candidate.

Hill will join Portland Mayor Tom Potter, who will endorse the Obama's presidential bid on Wednesday.

Obama himself will make his fourth visit to Oregon this weekend.

Two more mayors back Merkley

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley today announced the endorsements of two Mayors: James Bernard of Milwaukie and Pat Sherman of Brookings. Twelve mayors are now backing the House Speaker for his bid to take on GOP incumbent Gordon Smith.

“Jeff has been a champion for Oregon values his whole career,” said Bernard. “I’m proud to support him because he has proven he knows how to bring people together and get things done. We need that now more than ever.”

No Free Ride for Sam Adams?

Is Sam Adams the front runner for Mayor of Portland in 2008?Is Sam Adams the front runner for Mayor of Portland in 2008?Now that one-term wonder Portland Mayor Tom Potter has officially announced his retirement from office and the floodgates are open to all the perennial candidates, the only serious declared candidate is long time political operative and current City Commissioner Sam Adams. Portland developer Bob Ball spoiled his own bid for mayor with an attempted smear campaign trying to create an inappropriate relationship between Adams and a 17-year old intern. Based on his own character, Ball clearly forgot about the lost art of loyalty in the political world. But, former Mayor Vera Katz and City Commissioner Randy Leonard did not and they promptly outed Ball’s low grade tactics thereby ending his campaign before he could print even one bumper sticker. New Seasons co-founder Eileen Brady dipped her toes in the mayoral pool (along with the US Senate pool) for about five minutes and decided to take a pass for now.
