Oregon's oldest living Congressman, and how Les AuCoin got to Washington

In January, Darlene Hooley will become the twelfth  living former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Oregon.  Oregon’s oldest living former Congressman is Wendell Wyatt, a Republican who will celebrate his 91st birthday on June 15.  Wyatt, an ex-FBI agent and the Republican State Chairman from 1955 to 1957, won election to Congress in a 1964 special election and easily held the seat in subsequent races; Wyatt won 69% in 1972, running twelve percentage points ahead of GOP presidential candidate Richard Nixon.

Wind is picking up for Avakian Campaign

Any rumors that Senator Brad Avakian is leaving the Secretary of State race will be quashed this week when he rolls out a few of his Democratic endorsers. Former Governor John Kitzhaber and Former Congressman Les Aucoin will top the list of several heavyweight elected officials who are throwing their support to Avakian.  read more »

AuCoin backs Novick

Former Rep. Les AuCoin, who represented the first district in Congress for eighteen years, has endorsed Steve Novick for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination. AuCoin announced his backing of Novick at a Portland press conference on Monday.
