Poll hinting at Bush connection could be a problem for McCain in Oregon

John McCain and President Bush: Getty Images PhotoA Gallup poll released Tuesday showing that 68 percent of Americans are concerned that U.S. senator and presidential candidate John McCain (R-Ariz.) is too much like President Bush could have big implications in Oregon.

The survey of 1,625 voters conducted between June 15-19 shows that over 66 percent of American voters associate the Republican presidential candidate with the current unpopular administration.

The results of this poll allude to a big problem McCain could face in Oregon if he is unable to distance himself from the current presidency.

GOP: Victory Director appointment a sign of growing Republican confidence

A spokesman for the Republican National Committee indicated that the move to appoint a new director of the GOP's Victory campaign in Oregon and other states is part of a broader strategy to target those states' electoral votes in the November election.

"These are states that we are confident we will be successful in this fall," RNC spokesman Brian Walton said.

Tuesday's announcement that Bryan Watkins, the former campaign manager for Bob Watkins, California's Republican U.S Congressional candidate for District 52, will take the lead for Oregon Victory came with the announcement that five other states have also received new directors.

Watkins named GOP's Oregon Victory director

The Republican National Committee announced today that it is bringing in Bryan Watkins as the new Oregon Victory Director.

"We are pleased to have Bryan Watkins join the team," said Brianne Hyder, communications director for ORGOP in an email. "His campaign experience will help us elect Republicans in Oregon all the way down the ballot."

McCain within margin of error, new poll shows

Don't paint the entire West Coast blue just yet.

A poll released by SurveyUSA shows that if the general election were held in Oregon today, 48 percent of voters would back U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), and 45 percent would vote for U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). These numbers are within the poll's margin of error.

Poll: Obama leads McCain in Oregon

A new poll shows U.S Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) leading U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in Oregon. Obama leads McCain 46 percent to 38 percent, according to the latest tally by Rasmussen Reports.

Ramussen found Obama ahead in favorability ratings as well. Thirty-two percent of respondents had a very favorable opinion of Obama, while only 15 percent responded ‘very favorable’ about McCain. Only 28 percent of those surveyed said they found Obama very unfavorable, and only 18 percent felt the same about McCain.
