U.S. congressional candidate Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose) said Friday he will represent the Independent Party on the ballot in November, meaning there will be no Republican candidate running for Congress in the 1st Congressional District.

First Congressional District nominee Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose) teamed up with Republicans for Obama Friday by posting his reasons for supporting Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama (D-Ill.), despite the fact that Haugen is a member of the Republican Party.

Secretary of State Bill BradburyThe Oregon Independent Party and Secretary of State Bill Bradbury are headed to court to resolve their differences on how many parties can be listed next to a candidate’s name on the ballot, according to Oregon Independent Party Secretary Sal Peralta.

"We had hoped that the Secretary of State's Elections Division would recognize their mistake, correct it, and allow us to move on," Peralta said Tuesday.  "The opinion of our legal advisors is that the state's actions are inconsistent with Oregon law, and we need the court to step in and make a determination."

Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose), the Republican nominee in the 1st Congressional District, will appear on Fox News's the O’Reilly Factor on Tuesday, his campaign manager Sarah Tiedmann said.

The Independent Party released a statement Friday morning saying that 1st Congressional District candidate Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose) should not have to give up his Republican nomination to take up the Independent nomination, and that both parties should be listed on the ballot next to his name.

Joel Haugen, the controversial Republican candidate in th 1st Congressional District who wrapped up the Independent Party nomination Wednesday, is creating a stir at the Elections Division as to how his name is to be listed on the ballot.

The cross-nominations have led to several electoral questions as to how Haugen and other candidates must appear on the ballot. According to the Secretary of State, Haugen's name can only appear on the ballot once. If he does take up the Independent Party nomination, he will have to drop the Republican nomination, thus clearing the way for CD-1 Republicans to nominate a new congressional candidate

First Congressional District candidate Joel Haugen (R-Scappoose), who is battling Republican officials in that district, called support from Oregon Republican Party officials a farce after they refused to rectify a situation where local county officials would not support his candidacy.
