Novick: 'We are going to go down in history with the greatest losers of all time'

After a long and close primary, Speaker Jeff Merkley ultimately won the Democratic nod to take on Sen. Gordon Smith in November.

Merkley won with 45 percent to Novick’s 41 percent, and Candy Neville garnered seven percent of the total vote.

Novick conceded with his trademark humor, saying that the last phase of the campaign reminded him of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; “a couple of outlaws against an entire army.”

Neville weighs in on Merkley's 'Believe' ad

Yesterday, former Gov. John Kitzhaber joined Senate candidate Steve Novick in lambasting the negativity of ‘politics as usual’ in a spot released by the Novick’s campaign. Now another, more unexpected, pol is chiming in: fellow Senate candidate Candy Neville.

Neville issued a statement urging Jeff Merkley to pull his “Believe” ad from the air, saying his negative campaign is “disappointing, misleading and misrepresentative” in its depiction of Novick.

Who won the U.S. Senate debate between Jeff Merkley and Steve Novick? Considering the Merkley/Novick encounter was soft and dull, -- neither candidate threw any real punches – the winner could be Candy Neville or David Loera, relatively minor candidates got some free exposure.
