Is Gordon Smith still running as a Republican?

How long until Gordon Smith officially changes parties? After all, he's been running away from the Republican Party for months.

The latest is that Smith isn't going to attend the Republican National Convention so he can concentrate shoring up his support at home.

One visit to his website says it all, as the screengrab below demonstrates. The word 'Republican' is nowhere to be seen, yet 'Democrats for Smith' is a highly visible link on every page.

Compared with other members of his party, Smith is at least a reasonable human being. Which is not reason enough for me to support him, nor should it obscure the thousands of other times he has stuck with the GOP/BushAdmin agenda. He's no Lincoln Chaffee.

He can run, but he can't hide from his voting record. He's a right-wing Bush apologist and no Tom McCall.
