Kroger Repeats Call to Stop LNG Proposals
Kroger applauds new report that documents high costs and environmental damage
In the wake of a state Department of Energy report showing that proposals for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals on the Oregon coast are more expensive and polluting than domestic alternatives, Attorney General candidate John Kroger renewed his opposition to build LNG plants on the Oregon coast.

In response to the report, Kroger released this statement:

Since February, I have opposed the proposed LNG terminals for one simple reason: they take us in the wrong direction.  For the last fifty years, the United States has pursued a short-sighted energy policy that leaves us overly reliant on foreign fossil fuels.  This policy has been bad for our economy and bad our environment.

Even worse, our reliance on foreign fuels has forced us to maintain dangerous alliances with unstable dictatorships and corrupt regimes around the globe.  It is critical that the United States end its addiction to foreign fossil fuels and pursue energy independence.

I am glad that the report from the Department of Energy concluded that domestic natural gas would be cheaper and better for our environment than shipping liquid gas across the ocean.  These findings, combined with my foreign policy concerns, clarify why we should all fight plans to build LNG terminals in Oregon.  Instead, we need to invest in domestic, renewable and safe sources of energy. I hope this report will help move us in that direction. I applaud all of the volunteers and activists who have spent their time and energy fighting LNG.

Kroger is available for further comment throughout the day.
