Now that Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have split Indiana and North Carolina, Oregon can be assured that it will receive attention.
Oregon—with 52 delegates and 12 superdelegates—is the only really competitive state remaining on the primary calendar, which is why both candidates will be turning up in the Beaver state over the next few days.
Obama’s campaign announced this morning that the Senator will be in Oregon this weekend, details are forthcoming.
Clinton will be out in Central Point tomorrow, holding a town hall at the Jackson County Fairgrounds and Expo Park.
The Oregonian has endorsed GOP State Rep. John Lim for re-election, and wants Democrat Suzanne Van Orman to replace retiring Republican Patti Smith's seat. The newspaper is backing ... >

Next Stop - The GOP Fear Machine
Congratulations to Hillary for a hard fought race.
I think it's now time to shift to the general election. Hopefully, we can all now unite behind the fact that this country cannot tolerate four more years of the past eight.
Next Stop - The GOP Fear Machine
I think that oil will be this cycle's GOP scare tactic for their fear machine. Some economists have mentioned $10/gal gas. Carl Rove has already said:
"If we were to give up Iraq with the third largest oil reserves in the world to the control of an Al Qaida regime or to the control of Iran, don't you think $200 a barrel oil would have a cost to the American economy?"
It seems probable that the GOP will try to scare the public into a mindset that the only way we can hold onto our money is by holding onto Iraq.
We have to get prepared to show that this administration's (and McCain's) policies are the reason for the problem, not the solution.
Fear will not win. Not this time.
Hillary is the best candidate for November
Hillary we need you to keep running. There is no way that Obama can win in November.
His 20 years with Wright will cause middle america to vote for McCain.
Hillary you are the best candidate to win in November and the best experienced candidaate.
No more speeches from Obama. We need action.
Another 'real story'. Comment ?
why is noone talking about clear black voter racism ? 91% for ObamaRama from black voters ? Nearly 1 in 2 white males vote for Obama ? and yet somehow obama cool aid drinkers still hint that he cannot be elected because of anglo racism ???
When does the 'society of victumization', i.e press and dems, admit to the ridiculous double standard ?
Hillary Fund Raising
In this election Hillary Clinton does not deserve the title of underdog but bad dog. The best thing that Democrats can do for America is to swat her on the nose by denying her fund raising efforts.

Oregon Votes
Hillary go away. I am from Oregon and I know we don't want you here. It will look the NC results here. Get out of the race.
What does action mean? I
What does action mean? I don't see Hillary running through obsticle courses.
Rep. Troll Reasoning Again?
HEY "laughing at dems "
Blah Blah. I am sick of that Obama is winning because he is black excuse. Hillary is in the same boat. If she wasn't a white elite old woman she would not be here either. Or if it wasnt for the uneducated she would not be here either. Get a clue!
RE: laughing at dems
Perhaps if you learned to spell, or write coherently, you could be taken seriously.
Posters
I can tell who is posting outside of Oregon for Hillary. I am in Oregon and we don't care if she shows up or not. I bet her speaches all start off by saying "You can donate to....." Obama has no need to ask for money nor loan him-self money. Go home Hillary, whatever state you claim as home this week!
I'm with Larry. Clinton, go
I'm with Larry. Clinton, go away. I voted already by mail, signed sealed delivered, and not for your deceptions and reckless promises, intimidations and maneuvers, not for your many faces of this campaign. I am sorry you didn't turn out to be a person of character and integrity because I, too, want a woman president. Kathleen Silbelius of Kansas. And I don't want you in the VP role. You have proven that you can compete, you can dominate, but you cannot collaborate. And, you cannot consider the higher good in what you do.
Sister Carl, get a grip. It
Sister Carl, get a grip. It is over. Even if she kept running for the next until inauguration Hillary will never catch up. The voters have heard and rejected your "Obama can win in November. His 20 years with Wright will cause middle America to vote for McCain." fear mongering. Maybe you should drag out a different bogeyman. Remember... Hillary has a lot of sins in her closet too. Let me tell you why Hillary?? (Shouldn't it be Hilary?) is losing. There is no message. She keeps on pandering and wandering around mouthing out what is expedient. She is negative, way too negative. If she makes some changes, she will start winning.
Race too long!!
The only way Hillary can redeem herself is to drop out of the race now with her head high. You still have substance but time and generation gap have overtaken you. Let people remember you for your good deeds rather than the hurricane Hillary who destroyed the Democratic party.
Oregon????
Oregon????
I love Hillary, the tenacity, the fighter within her. Now that is a person that will fight. I know she will do very well in the next two weeks in West Virginia and Kentucky, but in Oregon? I know she will do well, but Oregonians are left liberals that will elect Obama. We all know that.
There is a saying that many of us Californians use for Oregonians, "Damn, must have so great 'grass' where you're from!" And I will leave it at that.
Was it racism when blacks
Was it racism when blacks were electing white politicians all these centuries? Or are you just plain dumb?
next stop-the gop fear machine
Rove needs to take an introductory course in economics. The oil market is international. If Al Quaida controls Iraq oil and chooses not sell to us, it will have to sell to others whose suppliers now will want to sell to us. Many sellers make up this market.
Scared your candidate's secret might come out?
What good things have obama done? But misguide the voters? Especially young voters by promising change. These young people are not undrstanding the consequences of change. Reminder, in 2000 young people voted for bush because of change and look what happened. Obama wont do anything for the young voters. He knows they are vulnerable and he is usuing the media to do his bidding. MSNBC, Huffington Post, etc. all progressive media turned into mainstream media.
This shoudl go on, more and more scandals will just come out of his past and damage him. Remember, the scandals and the controversies of Barack Obama has been inflicted upon himself, not by HIllary or the media. It has been by himself with his friends, his bitter comment and he again, since he has the left media, he can twist it anyway he can.
His scandals might not hurt him here during the primaries, but in the general I am dancing in anticipation to see the ads against him. (That is if he is the nominee, and he needs the white working vote and he probably wont in the swing states, and dont give me or any of the bullshit where he can say he can make battle ground states when he cant even win against hillary in primaries where democrats must win. North Carolina, is a red state and will remain Red in November---I guess you can't use that as an excuse!--and as of Missouri, he didnt even win the rural areas and that is critical--can't use that one too!---and Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Virginia, going blue? Not! will remain red---can't use that one too!!)
Wow...
Hillary continues to run for McCain's benefit
Hillary's run only hurts Obama's chances, and her 20year history is much worse, but she's gotten a free pass.
1. Whitewater - consorting with people who stole, robbed, and were pardoned by her husband.
2. Health care activities in the 90s - proved she can't work with people. Now is the leading recipient of health care dollars. Sure, she's a fighter, but you can guess who she'll be fighting for.
3. Political player - lies for benefit (Bosnia), votes based on polls (Iraq), and wants to build a NATO like protection for OPEC so they can keep screwing us.
Obama an Amazing leader
Hey Carl, Think about it. A person comes from nowhere, puts together an organization that can out raise Clinton's, can put together a campaign in every state and win more states and votes.
That is some amazing stuff. Hillary has to loan her campaign money and 1.5 million donors are ready to give little bit money every month to obama campaign. Obama has brought in so many young people together it is amazing. Ability to lead people, inspire them and motivate them to work for the country.
Don't you think this is sign of a great leader? I believe this is what leadership is all about. I hope dems win in Nov and I think Obama can surely win. I am sure Hillary would have won too.
Look- At the beginning black
Look- At the beginning black people weren't voting for Obama 91%. It's after the Clinton's started offending them that they did off with her. They offended me (I'm white) by trying to scare white people with names like Farrakhan when he has NOTHING to do with Obama! Don't forget that white women are voting for Hillary by a big margin for most part- are they racist? Maybe some, most just want to a mom elected. If you can't see through the Hillary BS machine than your eyes are closed. I think she'd make a good President by the way, she is just started getting dishonest with us and herself when she realized she might not win. Before that she was great.
Who cares about Wright?
Who cares about Wright? Anyway, McCain's got TWO "spiritual advisers" who are infinitely crazier, one of whom believes that God has ordained the US to eradicate Islam, and another who believes that Hurricane Katrina was God's divine retribution on gays.
HILLARY CLINTON IS REVILED IN RED STATES. FOR RED-STATE CONSERVATIVES SHE IS THE POSTER CHILD FOR EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH AMERICA AND THEY WILL RALLY BEHIND MCCAIN JUST TO OPPOSE HER, THEY HATE HER SO MUCH.
AMERICANS WILL NOT PUT A WOMAN IN OFFICE IN WARTIME.
If Americans are ready for Black and female secretaries of defense and state, then maybe they're ready for a Black and/or female president. The millennial generation doesn't care so much about race and gender, and they can decide this election. I've met a lot of Republicans who are voting for Obama in November, and I've met a lot of Democrats who will vote McCain if Clinton is nominated.
Who cares about Clinton
Anyone else think Obama/Edwards '08 would have a very strong chance of defeating McCain?
Yes, Oregon
There is a saying many of us Oregonians use for Californians:
"Go home."
I will leave it at that.
Hilliary
Californian, I can clearly see why you support Hilliary....you both have the tendency to be condescending and mean-spirited. Try a bit of kindness next time you want to dump your venom.
I am from Washington State---every county voted for Senator Obama by overwhelming margins!! I am sure Oregon will pretty much do the same. You see, Californian, these two states are very progressive and we believe in a greater tomorrow and brighter future for our children and grandchildren. Our belief is in with the NEW and out with the OLD. NEW MEANS PROGRESS, OLD MEANS NO PROGRESS AND STAYING STUCK IN THE SAME OLD POLITICS AND OLD WAYS OF YESTERYEAR.
Thank you
Thank you, NinaK I could not have said it better than you did. Negative campaigning has been a main staple in US politics since Nixon. I believe it is time to focus on ways our nation can improve, rather than insane acquaintances and bad word choices. Sensationalism is immature and America is growing out of it. However, those who support Obama need to begin asking themselves tough questions regarding his capabilities to persuade leading members of Congress, who have been 'bought off' by Big Business/Big Oil, to stop accommodating their corporate paymasters and elicit a drastic change in policies ranging from taxation, health care, education, alternative energy, globalization / outsourcing. One must also ask if generalized promises of change are really meaningful, or empty rhetoric. Obama's meteoric rise to power did not occur without compromise. Obama is weak in his position regarding alternative energy. That being said I will still vote for him. When he wins however, he must be held accountable for his promises.
quote:
NinaK
"and we believe in a greater tomorrow and brighter future for our children and grandchildren. Our belief is in with the NEW and out with the OLD. NEW MEANS PROGRESS, OLD MEANS NO PROGRESS"
LOL!
You said
There is a saying that many of us Californians use for Oregonians, "Damn, must have so great 'grass' where you're from!" And I will leave it at that.
Duh! Thats why all you Californians keep moving up here! BTW check your spelling next time. Looks like you are the one with the grass.
Tenacity
Tenacity is not a plus, necessarily, in a president. George Bush has stubbornly stuck to his policies, even ignoring the Constitution, and he has left the country in a shambles. Hillary needs to learn to be more flexible, less selfish, to have more wisdom, more give and take.
It's nice to see a strong woman, but sheer stubborn bruteness has been proven ineffective.
Thank you Hillary
Hillary - thank you for being the true leader.
I want to share 2 things this year's election taught me.
1. I am able to read politicians and get it right - I predicted the campaign would go the way it did. I've watched the campaign from its entirety. When I told several of my colleagues (some of whom are black) the issues Obama would face, they told me I was a racist. I am not. I figured this out around November of 2007. It all started last March 20007 when I heard about Rev. Wright I quickly went to the TUCC website and saw it. I also followed the Rezko and Ayers issues as well.
2. Hillary is giving hope to young girls all across the world - regardless of race, color and creed.
thank you very much!!!
By the way, I will vote for the Democratic nominee. I will vote not for the Republican nominee.
Obama - gas tax takes a holiday in 2000...he supported it
So, when Obama supported the gas tax holiday in Illinois it was okay. When Hillary and McCain proposed it in 2008 Obama says "see, they miss the boat. The tax holiday will do no good."
If so, then why did he support it in 2000?
Someone please tell me is Obama the same old politician as the rest of the field or not?
obama
Decisions by Republican incumbent Peter Fitzgerald and his Democratic predecessor Carol Moseley Braun not to contest the race launched wide-open Democratic and Republican primary contests involving fifteen candidates
replay
I would be surprised if Obama has that large a lead in eastern Oregon, but Portland, well nothing surprises me here anymore. Obviously the Obama supporters have not done their homework on the guy and just believe his smooth talk.
