Obama Campaign to Hold Statewide “Mission Not Accomplished” Events on Thursday

PORTLAND- The Oregon for Obama campaign announced today it will hold statewide “Mission Not Accomplished” events this Thursday – the fifth anniversary of President Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” declaration, when he signaled it was time to end combat operations in Iraq. Events will be held in Portland, Salem, Eugene, Medford, and Bend to highlight neglected priorities in Oregon due to the Iraq War.

In 2002, when conventional thinking and Washington insiders were lining up in support of the war, Senator Obama had the judgment and courage to stand alongside the entire Oregon delegation and speak out against the war. Barack Obama is the only candidate in this race who has been against the war from the beginning, declaring that it would be “an occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined cost, and undetermined consequences.”

Local officials and Oregonians will discuss Oregon priorities that have been neglected because of the Iraq war, such as combating climate change, providing all Americans with universal access to affordable health care, and expanding educational opportunities for Oregon children.
