Novick continues to 'pull the plug' on conventional advertising

At first, the ad doesn’t look like something voters have come to expect from Steve Novick’s campaign; images of flags and handshakes and hugs dance across the screen. That is until Novick pulls the plug.
Steve Novick keeps refusing to make a traditional campaign video (witness the two previous: “Beer with Steve” and “To Tell the Truth”), and the strategy has thus far helped the candidate. The “Beer with Steve” ad drew national attention as well as spurred the creation of Left Hook Lager by a Eugene brewery.
In this ad, after pulling the plug on all those handshakes and announcer-proffered praise, Novick highlights his views on social security: that all millionaires should pay Social Security tax on all their income – not just the first $100,000.
Jake Weigler, Novick’s campaign manager, noted that the ad offers clear substance on the difference between Novick and his leading primary opponent.
The ad, like the previous two, was produced by Eichenbaum and Associates.

Hey, I thought Steve Novick
Hey, I thought Steve Novick was against negative campaigning. "Unlike my opponents..."? Sounds like he's attacking somebody in this one. Doesn't that make him fair game now?
Policy Differences
Pointing out policy differences is not an "attack."
Steve Novick supports lifting the Social Security tax cap, Jeff Merkley does not. (I would imagine that the references to "opponents," plural, refers to Gordon Smith.)
If ads/messages can't be based on policy differences, what exactly are we supposed to base our votes on?
Misleading
Saying he will raise social security taxes for "millionaires" is very misleading. He should say he will raise taxes on people who make over $100,000 as well as their employers without paying them additional benefits.
One of the reasons there is a cap is there is also a cap on what one can receive in benefits.
Novick is dishonest and deliberately misleading in this ad. Someone making $125k would see an increase in taxes on him/her and his employer totaling over $3000. That is $3000 less they will have to put in 401k and 401k matching. They will not ever see that money again.
