The Democratic Party of Oregon’s platform conference is getting a boost this year: surrogates from the campaigns of the presidential hopefuls.
Chelsea Clinton signed on for a campaign appearance this Saturday, and the Obama campaign just announced that U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) will be speaking on Friday evening.
"We are thrilled to welcome Rep. Abercrombie to Oregon," DPO Chair Meredith Wood Smith said. "To hear from the Clinton and Obama presidential campaigns in the same weekend is Oregon political history. We are looking forward to hosting Rep. Abercrombie and Chelsea Clinton in Eugene."
Congressman Abercrombie has represented Hawaii’s first congressional district since 1991 and was a personal friend of Sen. Obama’s parents when they studied at the University of Hawaii.
