House Dems out; Johnston considering

Sources indicate that House Majority Leader Dave Hunt has cornered all House Dems who live in the 5th CD into one room and confirmed that all are staying in the legislature. That precludes House members Brian Clem, Betty Komp, and Greg Macpherson from getting in. No word if any state senators in the district are considering a bid.

One former Salem House Democrat who has indicated an interest in running is Bryan Johnston. Johnston ran a tough race against State Senator Jackie Winters back in 2002.

On the Republican side, despite GOP support for Mike Erickson, former 5th CD candidate and Salem legislator Brian Boquist is also heavily considering a bid. Boquist also maintains a large personal bank account, so we could possibly see a tough fight in the GOP primary.

With the clock ticking to the March 11 filing deadling, the next few days will be very telling.

Sara Gelser lives in DeFazio's district. Larry Galizio lives in Wu's district. And Mike Schaufler lives in Blumenauer's district.

There's no requirement that you have to live in the district to run, but let's not go shoveling people into districts they don't live in.
