CQ Politics: Senate race ‘now head-to-head’

An article published by CQ Politics on Friday called Oregon's U.S. Senate race "now head-to-head."

John Frohmayer, who was running as the Independent Party of Oregon's candidate to unseat incumbent U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton), ended his campaign last week. This leaves state House Speaker Jeff Merkley (D- Portland), Smith's lone opposition.

According to the article: "What is now unclear is the effect Frohnmayer's exit will have on the race, which CQ Politics currently rates as Leans Republican but deems highly competitive."

Frohmayer told PolitickerOR.com last week that he ended his bid because of the "feeling that the independents in Oregon were not organizable at this point," and that "fundraising was extremely difficult." Frohmayer's exit reaffirms the highly competitive nature of this closely watched race.

Senate race

What?? Only opponent? Merkley and Smith are too much alike for Republicans to choose.
David Brownlow will be the only pro-life candidate. Smith is for using fetal stem cells!
David Brownlow will be the only secure borders candidate.

So, there will be alot of conservatives NOT voting for the choices you gave.

As for the rest...
If the war is a real issue for people (despite other differences) they will vote for the true anti-war, anti-war funding candidate -- David Brownlow. Which of Merkley or Smith physically protests the war as David does? Which has a son in the military, who opposes foreign intervention? Which regularly hands out anti-war bumper stickers at PDX airport? If David can do all this anti-war action as a regular citizen, imagine what he could do as a U.S. Senator. Please don't ignore him in this race. David Brownlow is a real threat to Smith's conservative votes. And, that could make a difference in this race.
