Rothenberg Report now favors Merkley

As polls have started to turn against U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton), the Rothenberg Report has reclassified Oregon’s senate race as a “lean takeover” race.

The Rothenburg report previously classified the race between the incumbent senator and Oregon house Speaker Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) as a toss-up in September.

Politicker.com’s Pindell Report classifies the Oregon Senate race as a toss-up, though it lists the race as the second-most competitive race in the country.

Jeff Mapes over at The Oregonian discussed the intricacies of the race with Nathan Gonzales, the political editor at the Rothenberg Report. Read it here.
