Vandals destroy Republican candidate signs

CLACKAMAS CO. – Vandals snuck onto private property and destroyed about $1,000 worth of signs for Republican candidates on Hwy 212 and SE 142nd St. in unincorporated Clackamas County sometime Tuesday night.

Linda Flores that was vandalized in Clackamas CountySigns supporting U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton), OR-5 congressional candidate Mike Erickson (R-Lake Oswego), state treasurer candidate Allen Alley (R-Lake Oswego), state House candidate Matt Lindland (R-Eagle Creek), state Rep. Linda Flores (R-Clackamas) and Clackamas County commissioner candidate Dave Mowry were in tatters. It appeared that vandals drove onto the field and sliced through the signs with box cutters. They also bent over the steel poles the signs were attached to.

According to Clackamas County Republican party chair Tom Devanney, this is the second time in a week that vandals have destroyed signs at this location. Devanney was quick to blame liberals for both instances.

“It’s sure not Republicans doing it,” Devanney said as he surveyed the damage. He pointed to the McCain-Palin sign, the only one that remained intact. “That’s our last four by four sign. The only reason they didn’t get it is because we put it up high.”

Devanney said the bill for sign damage at that site is up to $2,000 after a similar instance of vandalism last week. The site has been the largest conglomeration of Republican candidacy signs in Clackamas County. But it may no longer be. Continuous vandalism means the county party is starting to run out of signs.

“I don’t really know what to do other than put a guard up here,” Devanney said. “But we can’t afford that.”

Memories...

Ah, this brings back memories...

I don't know if I remember the details right, but I seem to recall a few years ago the GOP was dealing with bad press and then one morning Tim Trickey witnessed a rock getting thrown through the GOP HQ window. Inconveniently (or conveniently) enough, the security cams were shut off, but luckily we were able to rely on Trickey's expert witness testimony -- it was the DEMOCRATS that must've done it!!!

How Karl Rovian Of Them

Karl Rove likes to fake things like this.

I saw the torn up signs when I drove past them today. The McCain sign was still in tact. Maybe to make sure that everyone could read the name on one of the signs, to make sure that they knew this was a Republican sign garden.

Volunteers

You don't need to pay someone to guard those signs. Just ask for a volunteer who has a shotgun, some rock salt and good aim. Then we can really see who is tearing up those signs.....

Oh, that's your solution for everything!

Anon75, I love your (presumably Republican?) response to the sign vandalism problem:

Shoot people.

Meanwhile, Democratic signs were being vandalized in Portland so a young man turned his webcam on it and a community of supporters banded together to watch the signs in shifts.

... Kinda reminds of the differences in Republican vs. Democratic foreign policy:

D = Create coalition of coordinated support
R = Get a gun

Shoot People?

Haha. I'll be Anon75 is a strong Palin supporter.
