OR-5: Oregon Farm Bureau endorses Schrader
By Britten Chase, PolitickerOR.com ReporterThe Oregon Farm Bureau endorsed State Sen. Kurt Schrader (D-Canby) in the 5th Congressional District race Tuesday.
Schrader and Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian were the only two Democrats the OFB endorsed in the statewide races. They are accompanied by U.S. Rep. Greg Walden (R-Hood River), U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Pendleton) and presidential candidate John McCain (R-Ariz.).
“If elected, I would be the first farmer elected from the district,” Schrader told panelists at a debate on minority issues at Willamette University last week.
The Oregon Farm Bureau also announced endorsements in state House and Senate races. It did not endorse in every district, but did back 28 Republicans and eight Democrats in House races, as well as five Republicans and one Democrat in Senate races.
“We select candidates who we feel will do the most to support Oregon agriculture and family farmers and ranchers,” said OFB President Barry Bushue.
