Freedom’s Watch, the national conservative group, has been investing heavily recently in Oregon’s U.S. Senate race, but has been relatively quiet in the 5th Congressional District race, which was the first Oregon race it decided to participate in.
In early July, Freedom’s Watch jumped into the OR-5 race, making robocalls warning voters that Congressional candidate Kurt Schrader (D-Canby) had been behind gas taxes that led to prices being over four dollars a gallon at the time. In late July, Freedom's Watch followed up with a second round of robocalls that again tied Schrader to high gas prices.
But the group has not engaged in that race recently. According to a Washington Post article released Monday, the group invested a lot of money in the past 10 days in the Oregon and Colorado senate races, as well as Congressional races in Alabama, Nevada, Illinois, New Jersey and New Mexico. But none for Oregon’s 5th congressional district.
Freedom’s Watch spokesman Tim Pearson declined to comment on if the group had plans to put more money into the OR-5 race.
“We’re not up on the air right now against Schrader,” Pearson said. “Right now, we’re going to put our money where we can get the most bang for our buck."
