No presidential debate? No problem!

Even though John McCain is calling for Friday night’s presidential debate to be postponed, Oregon political junkies can still gather around the television Friday to watch two candidates go head to head on issues regarding the impending financial crisis.

A debate between State Treasurer candidates Ben Westlund (D-Tumalo) and Allen Alley (R-Lake Oswego) that is set to take place Friday afternoon at the Portland City Club will be aired Friday night at 8 p.m. on Portland Community Media channel 30, according to a spokeswoman for the Portland City Club.

The debate is the first to take place in the race, despite the fact that at the end of the May primary the campaigns were calling for as many as 10 debates between the two candidates. But after several miscommunications between the campaigns, there will only be two dual appearances.

The second debate will be held in Bend on October 14, hosted by the League of Women Voters.
