The anti-Jeff Merkley ad released by Freedom’s Watch Tuesday is deliberately deceiving voters Merkley's record on seniors in Oregon’s State House, according to U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Portland).
"Advocacy for seniors is a subject I know a little something about, and the far-right 'Freedoms Watch' ad is simply misleading and wrong,” Wyden said. “It is wrong to attempt to mislead people into believing that Jeff Merkley has been anything but a tenacious advocate for Oregon's seniors. Jeff didn't decrease overall funding for seniors; he greatly increased funding for seniors and people with disabilities so they can live independent, productive lives.”
Wyden is a member of the U.S. Senate’s Special Committee on Aging, which deals with issues relating to older Americans, including Medicare and social security.
While chastising Freedom’s Watch, Oregon’s Democratic senator implied that he expected to be joined by another Democrat, Merkley, after the November election.
"Jeff was great for seniors in the legislature, and he will be great for seniors in the U.S. Senate," Wyden said.
