SEIU releases ad attacking Smith

The Service Employees International Union is getting into the Oregon Senate campaign with a television ad released Wednesday attacking Gordon Smith on his voting record in the U.S Senate, where they say he voted for tax breaks for big oil companies and drug companies.

The ad says Smith voted in lockstep with President Bush on billions of dollars worth of tax breaks for those companies.

The SEIU, an international union of more than two million people, has 50,000 members in the Beaver State. It endorsed Smith’s rival, Oregon House Speaker and U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Merkley (D-Portland) in March.
