Democratic legislation will lead to first-ever review of insurance rate increase

Dave Hunt (D-Clackamas): Campaign photoState House Democrats released a statement Wednesday saying legislation they passed during the 2007 session will lead to the first-ever state review of the reasoning behind skyrocketing insurance rates.

According to the statement, a request for review was filed on Tuesday by an individual facing a 26 percent increase in insurance premiums from Regence. Now, according to the Department of Consumer and Business Services, the state agency that regulates insurance companies, a hearing will be scheduled to determine if the rate hike is without reason.

"Because we made the process more transparent, we have the first opportunity for a hearing to be held on the validity of this rate increase," said Democratic Majority Leader Dave Hunt (D-Clackamas).
